Client Brief
The homeowner approached The Leicester Landscaping Company seeking a full renovation of their tiered patio area. The existing layout consisted of ageing concrete slabs, worn steps, and an overall design that felt tired and disjointed. Although the levels offered great potential, the space lacked character, structure, and usability.
They opted for our full design and construction service to ensure a seamless transformation from initial concept to final build.
Client Objectives
The client wanted a modern outdoor area that felt elegant, welcoming, and functional for outdoor dining and hosting. Their key requests included:

Design Concept
Our designers developed a concept that focused on refreshing the layout, elevating the structure, and creating a high-end look. Key elements of the design included:
1. Premium Natural Stone Paving
The outdated concrete slabs were replaced with a sophisticated natural stone, giving the terrace a renewed sense of quality and elegance. The new paving brightens the area and creates a refined visual flow across all levels.
2. Bespoke Timber Pergola
To introduce height, character, and a central feature, we designed a custom timber pergola placed on the upper terrace. This creates an inviting outdoor dining and socialising space while serving as a striking architectural focal point.
3. Redesigned Steps & Improved Transitions
We rebuilt the steps using the same premium paving to ensure continuity and a safer, more modern look. The improved transitions between levels make the space feel larger and more cohesive.
4. Raised Brick Planters
Low-level raised beds were incorporated into the design, blending brickwork with the existing house structure. These planters soften the terrace edges and add opportunities for planting that enhances visual interest.
5. Decorative Gravel & Stepping Pads
To refresh the lower section, we added decorative gravel paired with large stepping pads. This modernises the ground-level zone and creates a clean, attractive transition up to the main patio.
Construction Phase
Our construction team carried out all structural and finishing work with precision and attention to detail. The build process included:
- Removal of all existing slabs and preparation of the base
- Construction of new brick planters and step framework
- Installation of natural stone paving across all terrace levels
- Erection of the bespoke timber pergola
- Laying of decorative gravel and modern stepping stones
- Installation of new planting and final detailing
The project was completed to a high standard while ensuring minimal disruption to the homeowner.
